Its only marginally bigger than my tiny Yamaha MG10C. The Behringer was the smallest form factor with the Mackie a close 2nd. Note that this doesn't discuss the recording benefits or detriments in any detail as this is more of a live sound review and not so much a recording rig review.Īll 3 seem fairly well built. I have had the Mackie for about a year and a half and I only recently got the XR18 just so you know where Im coming from. I actually own a Mackie DL1608, a Behringer XR18 and a StudioLive 1602 (though a more fair comparison would be with the 16.4.2 but Im only comparing those I have actually used and owned) I've had the Studiolive the longest at a few years. In a perfect world, the XR would be controlled by the same GUI as on the Soundcraft Ui. The ability to record 18 independent channels on the XR18 is a positive, but I'm assuming it is limited to 48.1k or 48k. Mackie and XR both fall short of the GUI on the Soundcraft UI that just works great across all platforms, IMO.

Even a $60 android tablet will work with the XR.

Unlike Mackie which requires an Apple for control, the XR can be controlled by a PC or android device. PC Edit works fine on the XR if you have a big enough viewing screen to work with and is very much like working with DAW software. The XR has a well designed case suited to be racked for transport. The XR just made all my analog rack live sound gear obsolete already.īehringer has been putting forth the effort to step up its customer support and quality control over the XR which has a 3 year limited warranty. I would use an external router for the best wifi reliability with the XR so that is no different from using the Mackie that requires an external router.Įvery mixer on the market is going to become technically obsolete. My personal opinions as an XR owner and Soundcraft Ui owner are. Would be great to keep this thread alive for those looking to buy in 2016. No USB for recording connectivity (IPad only).Well developed & branded company (and support network).Includes a physical control surface as well (not just digital).Greatly designed digital control surface.Risk of support being dropped as tech becomes outdated a digital unit may become obsolete. No physical control surface (unlike the Mackie), all digital so if issues arise in live venues no back up.IPad interface simplistic / difficult to control / not uniform across platforms.

These are the pros & cons I am seeing from your reviews: I'd like to purchase XR18 for some studio work (recording & editing), plus also the odd live job. Have they greatly improved, or have you discovered more limiting factors.Ģ. Have they sorted out many of the issues discussed in previous posts. After a good year ++ since its release, what are your thoughts in 2016. So now that a year has gone since this initial post I do have a question I'd like to ask before investing in the XR18 (or Mackie DLI608), especially those who have had these units over the last 12 months:ġ. Great review guys.thanks! Think it will be applicable for years to come.
